About this course
A practical, lab-first API testing course for Indian QA job seekers and working testers. You will test real public APIs such as Restful Booker and Swagger Petstore with curl, Postman, Newman and REST Assured, then wire everything into GitHub Actions. You finish with a two-tool capstone suite and a GitHub portfolio that matches what service and product companies ask for in interviews.
What you will be able to do
- Explain HTTP methods, status codes, headers and idempotency, and reproduce any API bug with curl.
- Build organised Postman collections with environments, variables, chained requests and JSON schema checks.
- Run data-driven API regressions from the command line with Newman and share htmlextra/JUnit reports.
- Design positive, negative, boundary and auth test cases for REST APIs using a professional template.
- Build a maintainable REST Assured 5 + TestNG framework with POJOs, specs, schema validation and logging.
- Test GraphQL and SOAP services, write a consumer contract with Pact and mock dependencies with WireMock.
- Run API suites in GitHub Actions with secrets, report artifacts, a k6 performance smoke and quality gates.
- Publish a portfolio-grade API testing capstone on GitHub that you can walk through in interviews.
Syllabus

▶
1. HTTP & REST Fundamentals — Methods, Status Codes, Headers & a curl Lab Learn how HTTP requests and responses really work, why idempotency matters, and practise full CRUD on Restful Booker using only curl and jq.
-
🔒
2. Postman Essentials — Workspaces, Collections, Environments & Variables Set up a professional Postman workspace for Restful Booker with folders, environments, variable scopes, saved examples and Git-exported collections.
-
🔒
3. Postman Scripting — pm.test Assertions, Chaining, Pre-request Scripts & JSON Schema Turn your collection into an automated suite with pm.test assertions, token-to-booking chaining, dynamic test data, pm.sendRequest and JSON Schema validation.
-
🔒
4. Data-Driven API Testing — CSV/JSON, Collection Runner & Newman with htmlextra Reports Parameterise requests with CSV and JSON data files, run them in the Collection Runner, then automate the same runs from the command line with Newman, htmlextra and JUnit reports.
-
🔒
5. Auth Types & Negative/Boundary API Test Design — Basic, Bearer, API Key, OAuth 2.0 Practise Basic, Bearer, API-key and OAuth 2.0 authentication in Postman, then design and automate negative and boundary API tests using a professional test-case template.
-
🔒
6. REST Assured 5 with Java & TestNG — Setup, given/when/then and POJO Serialization Set up a Maven project with REST Assured 5, TestNG and Jackson, write given/when/then tests and automate full CRUD on Restful Booker using Java records as POJOs.
-
🔒
7. REST Assured Advanced — Specs, Schema Validation, Extraction, Logging & Framework Design Refactor REST Assured tests into a maintainable framework with config, request/response specifications, API clients, JSON schema validation, data providers and safe logging.
-
🔒
8. Beyond REST — GraphQL, SOAP, Contract Testing with Pact & Mocking with WireMock Test GraphQL and SOAP services with curl, Postman and REST Assured, write a consumer contract with Pact JS, and simulate dependencies with WireMock and Postman mock servers.
-
🔒
9. API Tests in CI/CD — Newman & REST Assured on GitHub Actions, k6 Performance Smoke & Quality Gates Run Postman (Newman) and REST Assured suites in GitHub Actions with secrets and report artifacts, add a k6 performance smoke with thresholds, and enforce quality gates with branch protection.

🔒
10. Capstone Project — Full API Test Suite for Restful Booker & Petstore in Postman and REST Assured Build, automate and publish a portfolio-grade API regression suite for Restful Booker and Swagger Petstore using Postman/Newman and REST Assured, running in GitHub Actions and scored against a professional rubric.
