AI Agents for Test Automation — Playwright MCP, Copilot Agents & AI Testing Tools
Move from AI that suggests code to AI agents that explore, write, run and fix your tests - with human review, reliability and security built in.
✅ This course is included in the Unlimited & Global plan →About this course
<p>This course is for automation testers and SDETs who already write Playwright or Selenium tests and want to work confidently with AI agents - the 2026 shift from AI that suggests a line of code to agents that explore the app, write tests, run them and fix them. You will learn how agents and the Model Context Protocol work, and how to keep a human firmly in charge of quality.</p><p>Hands-on labs use free, public targets such as saucedemo.com and the Swagger Petstore: Playwright MCP exploration, Playwright's planner, generator and healer agents, GitHub Copilot agent mode and coding agent, AI-assisted flaky test triage, OpenAPI-driven API tests with Schemathesis, and visual AI testing. The capstone is a public, agent-assisted end-to-end suite with GitHub Actions CI and a human-review log.</p><p>Teams in Indian IT services companies, product startups and global capability centres - and remote employers in the US, UK and Europe - now expect testers who can use agents productively and safely. You finish with a portfolio project, an agent governance pack and interview-ready answers on security, data privacy (DPDP Act 2023, GDPR) and ROI.</p>
What you will be able to do
- Explain how AI agents work (LLM, tools, loop, guardrails) and how the Model Context Protocol connects them to testing tools
- Set up the Playwright MCP server with safe options and let an agent explore an app and generate reviewed Playwright TypeScript tests
- Run Playwright's planner, generator and healer agents to plan, write and repair a test suite
- Use GitHub Copilot agent mode and the coding agent to refactor tests to Page Object Model and fix flaky tests
- Triage failures with clustering scripts and AI summaries, and apply self-healing without hiding real bugs
- Generate API tests from an OpenAPI spec with an agent plus Schemathesis, and review them against a checklist
- Evaluate commercial AI testing tools with a fair POC, cost and lock-in analysis, and run visual AI tests
- Govern agents with least-privilege permissions, prompt-injection defences, audit trails and honest ROI metrics
Syllabus
-
▶1. AI Agents for Testers — LLM + Tools + Loop, MCP and the STLC Understand what an AI agent really is, how the Model Context Protocol connects agents to tools, and where agents fit in the testing life cycle.
-
🔒2. Playwright MCP Server — Let an Agent Explore and Generate Tests Set up the Playwright MCP server in VS Code or Claude Code, let an agent explore saucedemo.com and turn its work into a reviewed TypeScript test.
-
🔒3. Playwright Test Agents — Planner, Generator and Healer Workflow Use Playwright's built-in planner, generator and healer agents to plan, write and repair a saucedemo.com suite with human review at every step.
-
🔒4. GitHub Copilot Agents — Writing, Refactoring and De-flaking Tests Use Copilot agent mode and the Copilot coding agent to refactor a Playwright suite to Page Object Model, fix flaky tests and review the resulting pull requests.
-
🔒5. Self-Healing and Flaky Test Triage — AI-Assisted Root Cause Analysis Classify, cluster and summarise Playwright failures with AI, and apply self-healing safely without hiding real bugs.
-
🔒6. AI-Powered API Test Generation — From OpenAPI Spec to Reviewed Tests Turn an OpenAPI spec into agent-written Playwright API tests and a Schemathesis schema-driven run, with a human review checklist.
-
🔒7. AI Testing Tools Landscape — Evaluating Commercial and Low-Code Platforms Understand the commercial and low-code AI testing tool landscape and evaluate tools with a fair POC checklist covering cost, security and lock-in.
-
🔒8. Visual AI Testing — Playwright Snapshots and Applitools Eyes Hands-on Catch visual regressions on saucedemo.com with Playwright's built-in screenshot comparison and Applitools Visual AI on a free account.
-
🔒9. Governing AI Agents — Security, Prompt Injection, Audit Trails and ROI Secure and govern testing agents with least-privilege tools, prompt-injection defences, secret handling, audit trails, honest ROI metrics and an adoption plan.
-
🔒10. Capstone — Agent-Assisted End-to-End Suite with CI and a Human-Review Log Build and publish an agent-assisted saucedemo.com suite with UI, API and visual tests, GitHub Actions CI and a human-review log that proves oversight.
